Different from the mother’s day of the world, in Thailand, people choose the twelfth of August as mother’s day of Thai people. The date is inspired by Thailand’s Majesty Queen Sirikit, who is seen as the mother of the entire Thai people and is also known for benevolence towards the needy and poor in the nation.
Thus, Thai people might celebrate this day not only to show their love and gratitude to their own mothers but also to pay respect and wish a long life to the queen.
Charitable activities, donations, and offerings to monks are also an important part of the day to express children’s love and gratitude towards their mothers.
On this day, it is common to see many white jasmine flowers, which links strongly the symbol of motherhood.
Happy Thai mother’s day!
